The University of Miami Health System, or UHealth, is a key investor in a $14 million strategic funding round for Better Health, a medical supply and support provider with strong South Florida ties. Other backers are Healthworx and Mosaic General Partnership.
This financing, which followed Better Health’s previous $10 million Series A round, also includes participation from new investor Samsung Next, as well as existing investors including Caffeinated Capital, General Catalyst and Bill Ackman’s family office Table Management. The startup founded in 2019 has raised $27.5 million in total, according to Crunchbase.
Co-founded by Naama Stauber Breckler and Adam Breckler [pictured above], Better Health provides support and medical supplies for people with chronic conditions, such as ostomy, chronic wounds, diabetes, chronic retention and incontinence. Its solution combines a cohesive care model that incorporates peer coaching, education, and home delivery of medical supplies, focusing on improving health outcomes and reducing costs.
The company plans to use the funding to bring a more comprehensive solution to payers and providers, while also expanding into new categories to serve members with chronic conditions. Better Health is also exploring incorporating AI to further enhance the experience for patients, payers and providers.
Headquartered in San Francisco and operating nationwide, Better Health serves the populations of more than 150 health systems and health plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, Cigna, Humana and Florida Blue. Better Health has at least four offices in South Florida, from Miami to Boca Raton.
“We started Better Health with a mission to revolutionize chronic care for people dependent on medical supplies with a solution built on human-to-human connection,” said Stauber Brecker, CEO, in a LinkedIn post.
“We envision a world where no one has to manage their chronic condition alone and today’s announcement is one more step toward this ambitious goal.”
