Looking for a new tech career? BrainStation to provide 50 full scholarships and applications are open

By Nancy Dahlberg

BrainStation, the global leader in tech skills training, will provide full scholarships for software engineering and user experience design bootcamps through its new Impact Miami program. Impact Miami is part of Tech Equity Miami, a funding consortium focused on removing barriers to entry into tech for underrepresented groups, supported in part through funding from JP Morgan Chase.

“Launching tech careers in Miami is what BrainStation is all about,” said Johanna Mikkola, VP and GM at BrainStation. “Our 12-week tech bootcamps not only provide students with the skills to succeed on the job, but also directly support their initial job search. Being able to bring that career-defining opportunity to underrepresented communities in Miami aligns perfectly with our mission.”

Impact Miami will provide 50 full scholarships for BrainStation’s Software Engineering and User Experience (UX) Design bootcamps. Beyond the classes, the scholarships will include career and placement support into high-paying roles in the tech industry. The new JP Morgan Chase-backed Impact Miami cohorts will be held in-person at BrainStation’s Wynwood campus starting in late February and will last for 12 weeks.

“Technology jobs are jobs of the future. We are committed to ensuring that Miami’s tech sector is as diverse as the city itself,” said Maria Escorcia, Corporate Responsibility Officer for Florida for JP Morgan Chase. “Building a career in the tech industry has historically been less accessible for Black, Hispanic and Latino job seekers, but we are working to change that.  We are excited that BrainStation will be taking the first step in  in this important mission.”

Applications for the Impact Miami bootcamps are now open. Mikkola said she has been working with groups like Latinas in Tech, Blacks in Technology , Miami Foundation and eMerge Americas to get the word out about the scholarship opportunity.

“The overarching goal is to create this inclusive pathway toward building a more diverse Miami tech,” Mikkola said.

BrainStation acquired the Mikkola’s homegrown Wyncode Academy in early 2021. With the Miami Migration priming the pump with new companies setting up shop, demand has continued to be strong for BrainStation’ s full-time bootcamps, geared to career changers, as well as its parttime courses for people who want to level up their skills in tech.

Mikkola said for those professionals who want to upskill, reskill or just add a skill, BrainStation will be launching these parttime certificate courses in-person in mid-January: Product Management, UX Design, Data Analytics and Digital Marketing.
