Miami shark alert! Daymond John bases his team in Wynwood

When Daymond John, the iconic entrepreneur and Shark Tank star, sets up shop, people take notice. But this time, instead of stepping into the tank to negotiate high-stakes deals, he’s chosen a new kind of space to drive his latest ventures. And it’s happening right here in Wynwood.

John has selected coworking hub Mindspace Wynwood as his new headquarters. But why Miami? What makes it the ideal backdrop for his latest ventures?

“Miami just makes sense for business,” John said in an interview earlier this year with Reuters. “If you’re a businessperson, you can catch everybody within a 50-block radius. Their guards are down. They’re relaxed and chilling.” Unlike the chaos of New York or the traffic-packed streets of L.A., Miami offers something different: a slower pace but without losing productivity. “I’m accomplishing the same things in Miami, but at a slower pace.”

John has had a handful of appearances over the last year, including at an invite-only event for executives and CEOs and an evening at Kiki on the River with Rick Ross. He’s also plugged into the local culture, frequently recommending the Wynwood Walls for team outings or a night at Rory McIlroy’s mini-golf and bar, Puttery.

For someone like John, who built an empire with apparel brand FUBU and continues to innovate through his work on Shark Tank and The Shark Group, the decision to base his operations in Wynwood is no accident. Wynwood is now a vibrant hub of creativity and tech-driven entrepreneurship, making it the perfect environment for John’s team of 20 to push forward on its branding and marketing innovations.

Mindspace, with over 45 locations across seven countries, has set up shop at the corner of N Miami Avenue and 29th Street. “Our mission is to offer an elevated workspace experience, combining high-end design, world-class aminities, and a community that fosters collaboration. Daymond and his team are the perfect fit for this vision, and we’re excited to welcome them into the fold,” said Dan Zakai, Mindspace’s CEO and co-founder.

Mindspace Wynwood, on the 6th floor of The Gateway in Miami, offers workspace, conference rooms, access to outdoor space, networking opportunities, and programming such as yoga and professional development sessions.
