Miami-based startup allows you to advertise like a Fortune 500 company in a cost-efficient way

By Anayansy Hernandez

Wishing your startup could be advertised on Times Square? Blindspot is here to help. The Miami-based startup is transforming billboard advertising by making it cost-efficient for startups to promote their companies anywhere in the world. Blindspot has screens in over 2,600 locations and 55 countries and is giving smaller businesses the chance to be seen on a large scale through its self-service platform that allows anyone to book an ad in real time for a fraction of the cost.

“We care about clients looking to be efficient with their money because that’s what hourly planning means,” co-founder and CEO Bogdan Savonea said.

The process is simple: Users visit the platform, select where and for how long they want their ad to appear, upload the media content, and advertise instantly at their desired location after the ad is approved.

The company emerged when co-founders Savonea and Matei Psatta were working on a project in Romania that needed exposure. The founders had a small budget of $200 and wanted to advertise on a billboard for a couple of hours. They soon realized the system was not designed to schedule content for small time intervals. “We initially thought it was a Romania problem, and then we looked at an international level. It was the same story everywhere in the world,” Savonea said.

Because being on a billboard typically required extensive budgets and a minimum of two weeks booked, the founders knew the majority of potential startups would be unable to use these services. They wanted businesses to have the same opportunities as Fortune 500 companies without having to spend large budgets.

Blindspot works directly with software providers and has automatic access to the available screens inventory. Today a vast amount of this process is done manually, but Blindspot has made their process automatic so providers and clients can have full transparency and ease of processes. Prices range from about 50 cents per hour to $350 per hour.

“We’re called Blindspot because we found the industry’s blind spot. The fact that people can come with $20 and be on a billboard, on a medium that usually is thousands of dollars, increases the value of the medium because of all of this new money coming into the industry,” Savonea explained.

Since its move to Miami three years ago, the company has made its presence known within the Miami tech ecosystem. This year during Miami Tech Week they featured a four-day event called Lumos House in partnership with Andrew Yeung, an entrepreneur and investor from New York. Lumos House featured curated dinners and workshops for founders all while allowing them to advertise themselves on a big screen.

Blindspot is using its headquarters in Miami to expand to Latin American markets. They hope to hire about 20 employees from sales personnel to tech support within a year, which will help them grow in the new market. The company is well on its way to fulfilling its mission to help startups and small businesses strengthen their presence without breaking the bank.
