When Jeremy Smith moved to Miami four years ago, it wasn’t because of a tweet or for tax breaks, as many assume of the city’s tech migrants. It was a leap of faith during uncertain times.
“I came here to ride out the pandemic and because Miami offered a better cost and quality of living,” Smith [pictured above] told Refresh Miami. At the time, the buzz around Miami’s burgeoning tech scene was just beginning. But for Smith, the move became the foundation for building Recharm, a tool enabling brands and marketers to scale their video production.
Smith’s journey to Miami had a ripple effect on his career. A former MIT grad and Airbnb engineer, he joined the On Deck program, where he connected with e-commerce insiders who helped him zero in on the opportunities in short-form video marketing.
“Miami had a big impact on the origins of my business,” Smith said. These connections, alongside the city’s rapidly growing tech ecosystem, became the launchpad for Recharm.
Recharm has stepped in to meet the soaring demand for short-form video content, a direct result of the rise of platforms like TikTok and Instagram. For brands to keep up, they need to consistently churn out engaging video ads, which can overwhelm creative teams.
“To be successful, you need tons of videos,” Smith explained. Recharm addresses this challenge by transforming a chaotic process into one that’s fast and effective.
The platform works by taking video content, including user-generated clips, and using AI to categorize and optimize them for creative reuse. Customers like Magic Spoon, Harry’s, and BarkBox upload their footage, and Recharm’s AI cuts and labels the content into a user-friendly library.
“We make it easy to find hidden gems and extend the life of winning ads,” Smith said. Teams can then experiment with different creative approaches, such as swapping visuals, refreshing hooks, or combining new scenes with existing audio.
Recharm doesn’t just make video production faster – it makes it smarter. By organizing content and streamlining workflows, the platform helps brands scale their video output and consistently test new ad strategies. The result is a library of modular content that can be repurposed efficiently, giving creative teams more time to focus on crafting high-quality campaigns.
The company itself reflects its lean and adaptable ethos. With a remote team of 30, including 10 full-time employees, Recharm has remained bootstrapped since its inception three years ago.
Miami has been central to Recharm’s growth. Smith credits the city’s tech community with providing the connections and support that helped shape his business. “Through Twitter, I met my first two friends in Miami, David Small and Dan Snow. That initial circle connected me to e-commerce leaders who solidified Recharm’s focus,” he said.
These relationships, along with Miami’s collaborative energy, helped Smith transition from a previous project to creating a platform solving a tangible problem for brands.
