Remitian raises $7M to tackle the messy final step of tax filing

Anyone who has ever filed taxes knows the moment: the forms are complete, the numbers look right, and the software proudly declares the return “ready to file.” But the work often isn’t actually finished. Behind the scenes, accountants still have to move money, confirm payments, track deadlines, and reconcile transactions across government portals and banking systems that rarely connect.

Miami startup Remitian thinks it can fix that. The company announced this week that it raised a $7 million seed round and launched a new tax payment API designed to automate how businesses pay and reconcile taxes. The idea is to turn tax payments into something closer to the smooth experience developers expect from modern fintech tools.

“The journey from ‘Ready to File’ to ‘Ready to Pay’ has historically been a broken, manual process,” Remitian CEO Solon Angel said in a statement. “Our new API allows our partners to streamline the entire tax payment experience, providing real-time updates via webhooks and bank-grade audit logs to ensure every payment is tracked from start to finish.”

The product focuses on a problem inside the tax world. While most tax software helps accountants prepare and submit filings, the step of actually paying those taxes often happens elsewhere. Firms log into government portals, initiate payments through bank systems, and track confirmations manually.

Remitian’s platform aims to bring those steps into one place. Through its API, tax software providers and accounting firms can embed payment initiation, validation, and confirmation directly inside their platforms, allowing accountants to manage payments across multiple tax jurisdictions from a single system.

“Paying taxes should not be a maze of portals, passwords, and penalties,” said Angel. “Our team has spent more than a decade building AI products for accountants. We are bringing that experience to the tax payment layer so firms can move money compliantly, reconcile faster, and serve clients with confidence. We want firms to be able to focus on their bottom line, not tax deadlines.”

Remitian, which currently has just over 30 employees, was built with direct input from the accounting world.

“Remitian was created by accountants for accountants,” said Larry Hasson McIntyre, a board member and longtime tax industry leader. “By encoding firm-tested workflows into a modern stack, the product reflects how practitioners actually work and what they need at quarter- and year-end.”

The startup has already landed early customers, including Atlanta-based CPA giant Aprio and Canadian accounting firm MNP. Its investor list also includes several well-known figures in the accounting and fintech sectors.

Now headquartered in Miami, Remitian plans to use the new funding to expand its product and deepen partnerships with accounting firms and financial institutions across North America.

In an interview with Refresh Miami earlier this year, Angel explained that basing the company’s headquarters in Miami was a strategic decision. “If you draw a triangle between North America, South America, and Europe, Miami is right there,” he said.

“We grew 10x since we arrived in Miami,” Angel added.
