Spazious’ suite of digital tools is transforming event planning

By Riley Kaminer

Anyone who has ever organized an event knows that it too often can feel like a full-time job. This endless flurry of tasks, emails, space viewings, paperwork, and more is not just a headache for us consumers. It’s as much – or even perhaps more – of one for those who are renting out their spaces.

Antonio Batanero Girbau saw this problem firsthand during his more than a decade in the hotel  and hospitality sector, including an eight year stint at Spanish hotel giant Meliá. During the pandemic, Batanero teamed up with Borja de Francisco Alvarez to devise a solution: Spazious.

The platform, which officially launched in 2022, offers a suite of products that includes 3D diagramming tools and an integrated booking engine for hotels. The ultimate goal: enable business owners to sell bookings more quickly and effectively.

“We saw that this space is insufficiently digitized,” de Francisco told Refresh Miami. “So we wanted to create different products wrapped into one unified solution.”

Spazious operates on a B2B2C model, with hotels as its primary customers. The main users within these hotels are the directors of sales and their teams, who leverage the platform to manage event bookings and operations. The platform also serves event planners who use hotel websites to send proposals and book events. Expanding beyond hotels, Spazious now caters to various venues, including wedding spaces and stadiums, capitalizing on the growing trend of unique event locations.

The platform supports a wide range of events, from corporate gatherings to large groups requiring multiple guest rooms. The platform’s features are tailored to different user needs. For hotel sales teams, the eCommerce-focused booking engine drives traffic and generates leads, maximizing revenue through direct bookings. Operationally, the platform manages inventory and logistics, while the 3D diagramming solution helps visualize and plan event setups.

The 3D modeling feature is particularly noteworthy. Gone are the days of blurry photos and confusing floor plans. Spazious allows event planners to virtually design their event space using a user-friendly 3D diagramming tool. This eliminates guesswork and ensures a seamless transition from planning to execution.

Since its launch, Spazious has seen significant traction. Hyatt, for instance, expanded its use of Spazious from two hotels to twenty, demonstrating a 10x growth. “We see this often: after a few months of using the platform, our clients roll Spazious out to more of their properties,” said de Francisco.

With a lean team of 20 spread across Florida, Spain, Mexico, and Colombia, Spazious is poised for continued growth. Having already secured $650,000 in funding, they’re currently seeking an additional $1.5 million to fuel their next stage of development.

Looking ahead, Spazious aims to enhance its offerings, especially in the wedding market. Recognizing that wedding planning involves more than just transactions, Spazious is developing tailored solutions to meet the unique needs of this segment and consumer base. “Our network is quite broad, and we like to enter underserved markets – so I think we’ll have great penetration in this space.”
