Take that, Amazon: Apple will soon move into a 45,000-square-foot office in Coral Gables and is opening a new Miami store, too.
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is taking 45,000 square feet in The Plaza Coral Gables office building. There is already a small office in Miami focused mainly on business in Latin America. The report, based on Bloomberg’s sources, did not say what the new space would be used for.
Apple is also planning to open a new Apple Store in the $4 billion Worldcenter development in downtown Miami. That would be Apple’s 10th retail location in the Miami area.
The tech giant has been slowly expanding its presence on the East Coast, AppleInsider reported. A massive 700,000-square-foot campus is also planned for North Carolina, but it appears to be stuck in construction limbo.
Apple’s expansion in the Miami area would be another milestone marking the unprecedented migration of tech founders, investors and companies this region has experienced starting during the pandemic.
The news follows Amazon’s announcement that the e-commerce giant it is looking for about 50,000 square feet of office space in Miami, following Jeff Bezos’ recent move to the Magic City from Seattle. Microsoft has also leased a new office in the same building that will serve as the headquarters for Ken Griffin’s Citadel, the Bloomberg report said.
