EP8: Do no Harm for Design
Sustainable design goes beyond doing and executing products and services which potentially benefit society and the environment where all living beings can thrive. Sustainable design looks deeper into its practice, where everything starts with the designer’s mindset shift towards sustainable practice. Where sustainability is not something fancy and new that designers should follow because of its convenient marketing value proposition. It is something that is starting to be required from users, customers and shareholders, as demanded by new policy regulations and extremely visibly needed by ever changing extreme climate implications.
At Designit they believe that sustainability has become a core element in business strategy – “it’s not an option anymore; it’s a necessity”.
In our next session Do No Harm for Design we will be talking to Pardis Shafafi, Strategic Design Lead resident at Designit’s Oslo studio and an advisor: E.U Off-site project. Designit, is one of the world leading design agencies, with 700+ designers on board and other interdisciplinary teams, they are committed to sustainability in everything they do.
Designit Oslo is currently ranked ‘gold’ by EcoVadis, making it one of the top 5% companies on diverse sustainability criteria. We will be exploring questions as to the importance of research and UX practice within such a broad sustainability approach to design. Focusing on humanity centered approach away from human centered one, focused on social, environmental and economic sustaining long term solutions. We will learn with practical and applied examples through concrete projects within different sectors – technology, energy, finance, mobility and nonprofit, and their broad portfolio (Nobel peace Center, The New Israel Fund, Novo Nordisk Smartmatic, Wilfa, BMW, Google, Sephora, Lufthansa, Iberdrola, BLOX)
