IntelePeer’s $140 million leap: AI automation poised to revolutionize customer service

By Riley Kaminer

Do you know Frank Fawzi? If not, maybe you should.

The serial entrepreneur, currently CEO of GenAI-powered customer interactions platform IntelePeer, has been innovating in South Florida for the last 23 years, longer than some of the #MiamiTech transplants have been alive.

And all the more reason to get familiar with Fawzi’s work is because of IntelePeer’s announcement today that the company has secured a $140 million fundraise. The round is a mix of debt and equity funding, but IntelePeer declined to specify an exact breakdown.

“We’re leveraging the capital to continue investing in our platform and our R&D,” Fawzi told Refresh Miami. This investment, co-led by Savant Growth LLC and VantagePoint Capital Partners, sets the stage for IntelePeer to significantly enhance its AI agent portfolio and expand its market reach.

The Dania Beach-based AI communications automation provider is riding high on the wave of generative AI, poised to revolutionize how businesses handle customer interactions.

The excitement around AI isn’t misplaced. As Fawzi pointed out, the market opportunity is vast, with Gartner forecasting over 50% growth in the AI sector. IntelePeer has been outpacing this with over 100% growth in its AI solutions. “Our AI solutions have been growing rapidly,” Fawzi said, highlighting their recent quarterly growth rate of 160% in contracted annual recurring revenue.

IntelePeer’s secret sauce lies in its ability to transform the customer service landscape for the better. By automating customer interactions across voice, messaging, and digital channels, they’ve managed to lower the cost of customer interactions tenfold.

A prime example is one of their customers, who automates over 60 million inbound interactions annually, achieving a 70% full self-serve rate. “The customer experience is significantly better, because who wants to wait on hold?” Fawzi explained. Their solutions ensure that customers receive accurate, instant responses without the frustration of long wait times.

This efficiency isn’t just about convenience – it’s also about resilience. The recent funding allows IntelePeer to enhance its AI-driven solutions, ensuring businesses can handle customer interactions even during high-demand periods or outages.

Fawzi mentioned Friday’s CrowdStrike outage, which led to a surge in customer calls. “Having a platform that can automate responses allows us to handle such surges without increasing the number of live agents,” he said. This capability is crucial for industries with high attrition rates among contact center employees.

IntelePeer’s journey started long before AI became a buzzword. Fawzi’s earlier ventures in the ’90s benefited from the Internet’s expansion, a parallel he draws with the current AI boom. “Recognizing the tech wave early on and capitalizing on it is essential,” he said.

IntelePeer plans to expand its team by over 10% by the end of the year, with a focus on product R&D and sales and marketing. This includes growth in the South Florida market, where the company already has over 50 of its 300 employees.

Reflecting on Miami’s tech evolution, Fawzi noted the dramatic changes over the past two decades. “It’s night and day between 2001 and today,” he said, crediting local leaders and organizations like Mayor Suarez and Manny Medina for their efforts in transforming the area into a vibrant tech center. However, he also pointed out the challenges of rising real estate costs, which could impact younger talent moving to the area.

Looking ahead, Fawzi is optimistic about both IntelePeer’s future and the broader tech scene in Miami. He believes that continued investment in sustainable tech, particularly AI, will be crucial. “AI is a tech wave that will be with us for the next 30 years,” he said. With its strategic growth investment, IntelePeer is well-positioned to be at the forefront of this wave, driving innovation and efficiency in customer service automation.
