Lumu launches European expansion with key acquisition
Lumu, the Doral-based cybersecurity company, is expanding into Europe after after acquiring Maltiverse, a threat intelligence company based in Madrid.
Lumu’s software helps organizations operate cybersecurity proficiently by measuring and understanding compromise in real time. Through its Continuous Compromise Assessment model, Lumu enables security teams to act immediately on confirmed compromises and minimize risk exposure.
The acquisition will help Lumu enter the European market and expand Lumu’s threat-assessment capabilities, according to Lumu’s press announcement. Lumu believes Maltiverse’s threat intelligence platform will give organizations a deeper knowledge and understanding of how attackers operate, enabling them to proactively anticipate and defend against evolving and emerging cyber threats. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
“Cybersecurity is an intelligence-driven challenge, and the acquisition of Maltiverse allows Lumu to deliver even deeper threat visibility and response capabilities,” said Lumu’s founder and CEO Ricardo Villadiego. “By integrating Maltiverse’s expertise in threat intelligence with Lumu’s real-time compromise detection, we are not only enhancing our current offering, but we are also doubling down on our commitment to the market: helping organizations of all sizes and verticals operate cybersecurity proficiently.”
Villadiego, born in Colombia, is a cybersecurity veteran. He previously founded and ran Easy Solutions, and Manny Medina was one of his first major backers. Prior to that, Villadiego, an engineer, held positions at IBM, Internet Security Systems and Unisys Corporation, before finding his passion in building startups. After selling Easy Solutions, Villadiego founded Lumu in mid-2019. Lumu secured $30 million in Series B funding in 2023, and has raised about $38 million to date.
“Joining Lumu marks an exciting new chapter for Maltiverse,” said Hesaul Sanchez, CEO of Maltiverse. “By integrating our intelligence with Lumu’s offerings, we are amplifying our impact, empowering more organizations with the knowledge and insights needed to stay ahead of cyber adversaries.”
