It’s not just magic – it’s AI! Meet the Miami startup turning conversations into content

By Riley Kaminer

Podcasts make for great content. You can cover so much ground in such an organic way, including multiple people feeding off each other’s energy. But translating this audio into a written format has traditionally been an arduous task – and using generic artificial intelligence tools can provide uneven results.

Enter Miami startup Castmagic, a tool designed to streamline podcast production and content creation. It automates the transcription of podcast episodes and transforms them into various forms of content, including show notes, summaries, social media posts, and more. By leveraging advanced AI technology, Castmagic helps podcasters save time and effort, enabling them to focus on creating engaging and high-quality content for their audience.

Co-founder Blaine Bolus understood this struggle firsthand. After exiting two startups – one in the restaurant industry and the other in the eCommerce space – Bolus was unsure what his next move would be. To pass some time in the interim, he started working with fellow Miami-based entrepreneur Ramon Berrios on DTC Pod, a podcast for founders and operators building businesses across the consumer, commerce, and creator space.

“One of the hardest parts was creating content,” Bolus told Refresh Miami of his experience working on DTC Pod. So he did what any true founder would do: start to build. Berrios and Bolus enlisted software engineer Justin Tormey to help solve the frustrations they faced.

“At first, we thought it was a very small problem,” Bolus reflected. But after starting to think in more depth about the root of the problem, the trio realized that the issue is much broader: it’s about the entire end-to-end workflow of managing the content of a podcast, and all the struggles that come along with it.

Since launching in March 2023, Castmagic has bootstrapped its way to $2 million in ARR and assembled a team of around ten people. Bolus, Berrios, and Tormey are all co-founders; the first two live in Miami.

So what’s it like to work in AI, which is perhaps the most hyped technology of the last few decades? “It’s kind of crazy,” said Bolus. “But at the end of the day, AI is simply a really cool technology. And it’s a founder’s job to put that technology to use and solve problems for customers who have real pain points that need to be addressed.”

“I see it as a level playing field now,” he continued. “Organizations of all sizes are trying to leverage AI, and often doing similar things. The key is how much value you can provide to a customer and how much they are willing to pay. Can you solve their workflow problems? Can you solve a ‘hair on fire’ problem for them? If you can, you’ll have a good business. Don’t get too caught up in the AI hype. If something is genuinely useful, we’ll apply it to the problem we’re trying to solve.”

Looking forward, Bolus shared the team’s excitement about building an AI-first content workspace. “Content creation is huge in every industry, whether it’s on LinkedIn, Instagram, blogs, YouTube, or other platforms. Despite its value, many content workflows are underrepresented. We’re building an AI-first workflow and collaboration tool for content creators. Our focus is on understanding their workflows and providing tools to support them, creating an all-in-one content workspace.”
